6. Denim: "Raw" and with granular textures
The Americans may have invented it, but it is the Japanese version of denim that enjoys cult status. "Brands such as Studio D'Artisan, Samurai and Buaisou have preserved old, slowly weaving machines and are modifying them to create unique denim pieces with irregular weave patterns," say Pablo de Pinho and Ana Deffarges of the Tempo Design Store in Lausanne. Here you will find a selection of denim products from Japan exclusive in Switzerland, especially from the denim mecca Okayama: traditionally rope-dyed, in untreated "raw" condition, with selvedge woven edge and granular "slub" and "nep" textures.
