Mastermade in Japan

This original denim is made with the traditional Japanese color "FUTA-AI." The warp yarns are dyed with natural indigo and madder dye layers to create a deep purple color. The natural unevenness unique to natural dyes enhances the distinctive texture. Both the warp and weft yarns are made of 6-count uneven slub yarn, creating a heavy finish. This denim dyed with "FUTA-AI" has a unique presence that combines calm, elegance, and strength.

"Futa-ai" refers to a unique shade of purple created through the dual-dyeing process of indigo and safflower. In ancient Japan, this exquisite color was used for the everyday attire of male nobility. At the time, Futa-ai was considered a forbidden color, reserved exclusively for the elite.

By layering the contrasting hues of red and blue, this color achieved a profound harmony, embodying an infinite spectrum of shades that celebrated the unparalleled beauty of purple. At D' Artisan, we have embraced this traditional Japanese color to craft our original denim. The warp threads are dyed through a meticulous blend of natural indigo and madder, producing a rich and sophisticated purple hue.

Furthermore, the denim is woven with care and precision on vintage shuttle looms in Ibara City, Okayama Prefecture, ensuring exceptional quality. Since ancient times, the Japanese have integrated a vibrant array of colors into their daily lives, discovering beauty in the changing seasons and cherishing the delicate interplay of hues. This denim, dyed with the essence of "Futa-ai," exudes a presence that balances tranquility, elegance, and strength, making it truly one of a kind.

"Craftsmanship with quality and integrity"

Influenced by French workwear and American vintage, "STUDIO D'ARTISAN" was the first to reissue vintage jeans in Japan in 1979. The brand's guiding principle is not to reproduce" old clothes, but to "reconstrust" them anew, incorporating the essence of the period and production background that can only be found in Japan. SDA will continue to create and pursue new values while keeping an eye on the next generation of vintage.
