In the 1960s, Bawa’s collaborators, batik designer Ena de Silva and sculptor Laki Senanayake, made some rustic furniture using huge slabs of wood. This may have inspired Bawa in 1970 to use a single plank from a fallen tree for a heavy three-inch-thick tabletop, supported by triangular wrought iron legs. The re-edition joins smaller wood sections with an aluminium brace to prevent bending and cupping. The base is made with black powder-coated stainless steel.
