This is a 2nd-type denim jacket featuring side pockets. This piece is crafted from our original 14.0oz selvage sashiko fabric, woven on a power shuttle loom. The fabric’s surface is dyed vertically and horizontally with the highest concentration of indigo yarn. The weaving density is maximized to replicate sashiko's distinctive unevenness and thick texture faithfully. This design has been reimagined to blend with vintage American workwear while complementing modern lifestyles seamlessly.

"Sashiko," a traditional material Japan takes pride in, is an exceptionally durable cotton fabric made by interweaving cotton threads alternately. This material, which has fine stitchwork on the surface of layered cotton fabric to enhance its strength, is a true testament to the wisdom of the Japanese people.

Due to its durability, it was once used in fireman’s (hikeshi) coats and judo uniforms, and has become widely known as a quintessential real work material representing Japan. Additionally, the delicate dyeing with indigo produces a unique texture that offers a distinct feel, different from denim, which is another major appeal.

At D' Artisan, we have created an original 14.0oz selvedge sashiko fabric, woven on a power shuttle loom using this traditional material. The fabric's surface features indigo-dyed yarns, dyed to the highest concentration, both horizontally and vertically. To faithfully reproduce the distinctive texture and substantial feel of sashiko, we have increased the weaving density to the utmost limit.

As a result, we have created a fabric that is so labor-intensive that only half a fabric roll can be woven in a day. This "sashiko" has been fused with vintage American work style, transforming into a new design that harmonizes with modern lifestyles.

"Craftsmanship with quality and integrity"

Influenced by French workwear and American vintage, "STUDIO D'ARTISAN" was the first to reissue vintage jeans in Japan in 1979. The brand's guiding principle is not to reproduce" old clothes, but to "reconstrust" them anew, incorporating the essence of the period and production background that can only be found in Japan. SDA will continue to create and pursue new values while keeping an eye on the next generation of vintage.
