Designer:
Chandigarh Collective
In the mid-fifties, Pierre Jeanneret, in addition to his ongoing work for the Capitol complex buildings, also designed some furniture for private residences in Chandigarh. The pieces usually followed his standard template of simple, sturdy woodworking, paired with an element of visual dynamism, courtesy the diagonal line in his signature ‘compass leg’, or the daring ‘X-leg’. The ‘chest of drawers’ was one such piece—a two-drawer unit made of teak, with a pair of asymmetric ‘compass’-style legs on either side.
